A jogging path, a new playground, a dock, an exhibition space and many other additions are on the way for Queen Elizabeth II Park in Road Town, government announced this week.

“Restoration and expansion of the Queen Elizabeth II Park will provide a safe play area for children, provide much needed green open space and contribute to the health and well-being of this territory’s residents,” Premier Dr. Orlando Smith said in a Government Information Services statement. “I look forward to the project beginning shortly.”

In government’s 2013 budget, $1.2 million was allocated for improvements at the park under the Premier’s Office. The budget states that this amount was carried over from the previous year’s budget.

An image of the new design released along with the statement depicts a waterfront boardwalk, a landscaped parking lot, a stage for live music, a water garden, picnic space, restrooms, shade structures and space for a tea shop or café.
