Wet weather has again delayed the start of road repairs, Mark Simmonds, owner of BVI Paving, said this week.

Government signed a $1.9 million contract with BVI Paving in February to resurface various roads on Tortola and Virgin Gorda. Mr. Simmonds said he had planned to start the work May 21 as announced by a Ministry of Communications and Works press release, but it was too rainy.

The first phase of the project — the stretch from Cane Garden Bay into Road Town — was scheduled to begin “a few weeks ago, but due to the inclement weather, works were rescheduled,” said Jameal Georges, project consultant with the MCW, in the press release.

Reached by phone Tuesday, Mr. Simmonds said he couldn’t say when the weather will permit the work to begin. Forecasts for Tortola call for showers through June 2.
