More candidates than ever before were nominated Monday to run in the Nov. 7 elections: 43 in all, said Elections Supervisor Juliette Penn on Nomination Day.
In the nine district races, 27 candidates will seek office, while 16 will contest the four territorial at-large seats.
During the 2007 elections, 36 candidates ran for office, and 33 ran in 2003. Ms. Penn said the growing number of candidates has not posed a problem for her office.
There were no hiccups in the nominations process, Ms. Penn said, adding that the closest call was a District Seven candidate who arrived just after the elections officer at that station had gone to lunch.
“But he rectified that; he came right back and dealt with him,” Ms. Penn said.
