Today, hundreds of sailors will register for the 42nd BVI Spring Regatta to be held at Nanny Cay through the weekend.

Many of them also participated in the Sailing Festival, the four-day precursor to the BVISR, which kicked off on Monday with a new format.

“We decided to give our visitors new waters to sail,” BVISR Director Judy Petz said. “And give them a chance to see more of Tortola.”

Instead of sailing to Virgin Gorda’s Bitter End and back over the course of three days, sailors raced around Tortola for the Nanny Cay Cup on Tuesday before returning to the Nanny Cay Marina for other activities in the succeeding days.

For this weekend’s races, sailing conditions are looking good, with light wind expected tomorrow and picking up to 15- to 18-knots on Saturday and Sunday, according to BVISR Chairman and Race Director Bob Phillips.
