Artificial crimson poppies dotted the shirts of about 300 people who gathered at the Eileene L. Parsons Auditorium Sunday as former service men and women moved across the stage and accepted honours from Governor Boyd McCleary.

Officers of the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force, fire fighters, prison guards, and service club members made up a large portion of the audience during the Remembrance Day Service, which included a procession of flag bearers, song selections by Janae Estridge and Nicole Donovan, a wreath-laying ceremony, and a sermon by Pastor Howard Simon.

“I want to take this opportunity right now, on behalf of everyone in this room, to say to you that we appreciate the service that you have rendered,” liturgist Kevin Smith told the many uniformed officers in the crowd. “I know, at times, we don’t say thank you enough, but this is a good opportunity to let the people see who you are and say that we appreciate you.”
