Police are investigating the robbery of a restaurant patron that took place in the parking lot outside the Mill Mall Sunday night, according to the Police Information Office.

The male victim told police he was sitting with others patrons in the parking lot when a man approached from behind and grabbed a silver chain that was around his neck. When the alleged victim attempted to retaliate, the assailant pulled a gun, fired one shot in the air and escaped behind the building, according to a police press release.

The alleged offender, who was wearing a hat at the time, is described as a slim, five-foot-five-inch black male in his mid-20s with braided hair. At the time he was wearing dark clothing.

One spent shell casing was recovered at the scene and no injuries were reported, the release said.

Police are urging anyone with information about the alleged robbery to contact the Road Town Police Station on the non-emergency 311 number; the Crime Investigations Unit at 494-3822; or the independent and anonymous Crime Stoppers hotline at 800-8477.
