More shops, new attractions and a fresh coat of paint will make a more pleasant Road Town for visitors and residents, officials said at the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the revitalised Crafts Alive Village Tuesday.

Vendors who formerly operated under tents near the cruise ship pier have now joined others at the village alongside increased seating, four fountains and a traditional fishing boat with fish pots on display.

Communications and Works Minister Mark Vanterpool, who represents Road Town as part of his Fourth District, said the revitalisation is part of a plan to help boost sales at Crafts Alive.

Education and Culture Minister Myron Walwyn said this goal is key.

“People say that cruise ships don’t spend money, the people don’t spend money. I think the problem is that we have not yet figured out entirely how to dislodge them from their money,” Mr. Walwyn said.
