It’s never too early to become a writer, Rotarians told students at First Impressions School on Tuesday.

Their visit was part of the launch of the Rotary Club of Road Town’s Butterfly Storybook Writing Competition, which encourages primary school students to write and submit stories of about 350-700 words.

Winners’ stories are printed in four languages and read around the world, said Delma Maduro, the assistant district governor of Rotary District 7020.

Participants’ stories should centre around the theme “Giving Something Special to Someone Special,” said club president Ryan Geluk.

“You have a lot of great ideas here, so be original and brainstorm,” he advised. “Write the best story you possibly can.”
The contest was first held in the Virgin Islands two years ago, and First Impressions student Marlie Hughes was among the 2014 winners.

The competition is open to all primary school students in the VI, and the deadline is Nov. 13.
