Police threw large bundles of illegal drugs into the incinerator at Pockwood Pond Friday morning, destroying more than two kilograms of cocaine and about 5,438 grams of marijuana.

Senior Magistrate Valerie Stephens, who gave the destruction order along with her sister magistrate, watched as two police officers emptied the back of a pick-up truck filled with drugs at around 6 a.m. An independent member of the police commission was also present as a witness.

“The RVIPF will continue to target particularly people who are growing cannabis in the area,” Detective Chief Inspector Katherine Adams said.

Large stalks of marijuana plants could be seen poking out of the tightly wrapped drug bundles, as police officers loaded the truck earlier at the Road Town Police Station. About 2,938 cannabis plants were fed into the incinerator along with 25.4 grams of cannabis seeds, Ms. Adams said. The cocaine that was destroyed, according to the inspector, was worth about $200,000.
