In an effort to help needy children start the school year successfully, the Social Development Department is holding its annual back-to-school supplies and uniform drive.

“We use this opportunity, and with the public’s help, to assist vulnerable families in the community who may be having a difficult time preparing their children for the new school year,” said Stacie James, supervisor of Family and Children’s Services.

The department is asking for donations of copybooks, pens, pencils, book bags, rulers, erasers, sharpeners and new school uniforms.

“We encourage persons to give as much as they can,” Ms. James said.

The initiative started three years ago in an attempt to support qualified students throughout the territory, according to Government Information Services.
