The search for Margarita Faulkner-Clinton, a 77-year-old woman who went missing from her home nearly three weeks ago, has been called off, police said.

Ms. Clinton, who suffers from dementia, was last seen around 5:30 p.m. Dec. 2 on the main public road in The Settlement, police said.

The search was extensive. Four days after Ms. Clinton went missing, police enlisted a group of volunteers from Tortola to travel to Anegada to assist.

Searchers have included police officers from Tortola, Virgin Gorda and Anegada; customs officers; members of the public; and officers from the United States Virgin Islands, along with two specially trained canines, police said.

A US Coast Guard auxiliary aircraft also conducted aerial searches.

“She has still not been found,” Police Information Officer Diane Drayton said yesterday afternoon.
