Anyone thinking of entering the Territorial Song and Dress Competition should keep Virgin Islands culture and history in mind, said Dr. Charles Wheatley, a member of the contest committee.

Dr. Wheatley was speaking during a public meeting held last Thursday to get the community’s input on the competition. About a dozen residents, mostly musicians and designers, attended.

Another committee member, Eileene Parsons, spoke more specifically about the criteria for the dress contest. Women’s outfits must include a skirt, a blouse, a head tie and petticoats, Ms. Parsons said. Entrants must also design a matching shirt for men.

Entries must be submitted to the Department of Culture at the Ward Building by March 30.
