Chris Ghiorse, director of the BSAFE youth cycling programme, has launched the BSAFE 24 Hour Challenge, a first of its kind endurance event in the BVI in which he plans to ride 500 kilometres (km) in 24 hours.  The aim of the event is to raise a funding shortfall of $50,000 to ensure that the BSAFE programme runs in all the schools for 2011/2012. Sailing

US Olympic Sailing Gold Medallist and Rolex Yachtswoman of the year, Anna Tunnicliffe, will be attending the Royal BVI Yacht Club (RBVIYC) on Thursday 3rd November 2011. Ms. Tunnicliffe, who is competing in the pro-am regatta at Bitter End Yacht Club, will meet with children and youth sailors in the afternoon, followed by a talk with question and answers at the club that evening.

Ms. Tunnicliffe will be joining a host of professional sailors at the regatta.

“We are thrilled and honoured that one of the best sailors in the world is visiting the club. It will be a great opportunity for our youth sailors to talk to her and learn from her expertise, and the evening event promises to be fun and interesting for everyone who attends,” said RBVIYC Commodore Bob Phillips.

The Pete Sheals Memorial Match Race will be held on Nov. 12-13 in Tortola.  Organisers are applying for a Grade 3, which is held on IC24s. Triathlon

The BVI Steelman, an Olympic distance triathlon, will be hosted by the BVI Triathlon Federation on Oct. 29 on Beef Island. The race is open to 3-person teams as well as individuals and comprises of a one-mile swim held in Well Bay, a 25-mile bike race, and a six-mile run along the roads and trails of Beef Island.
