A male student of the Bregado Flax Educational Centre on Virgin Gorda who suffered serious injuries after a stabbing incident outside the school last week has been released from the hospital, police said Tuesday.

Initial reports suggest that the 16-year-old and another male student were fighting outside the school on June 18 when the incident occurred, according to a police press release issued last week.

The 16-year-old, who was allegedly holding a knife and trying to stab the other student, collapsed suddenly with a wound to the chest, the press release said.

“The whole thing is still under investigation,” Police Information Officer Diane Drayton said Tuesday. “But no charges have been laid as of yet.”

The stabbed student was rushed to Peebles Hospital by boat, while the other student was treated for minor injuries at the Iris O’Neal Clinic on VG, the release said.

Police said they interviewed the student involved in the altercation in the presence of a parent, and also spoke to several witnesses.
