Two men were charged with possession of an illegal firearm after one of them allegedly threw a gun from a vehicle during a police chase on Friday.

Kai DeCastro, a 26-year-old teacher at Elmore Stoutt High School, and Keon Leonard, 24, are charged for the possession of a 0.45 calibre Glock pistol and nine rounds of ammunition. They were both granted a $65,000 bail with one surety during an appearance in Magistrates’ Court on Friday.

According to the allegations, around 3:45 p.m. on June 14 police observed a white SUV near the roundabout in Free Bottom and signalled with sirens for it to stop. But the vehicle didn’t stop, prosecutors said.

During the subsequent chase, officers allegedly saw an object being thrown from the vehicle, and they subsequently recovered the firearm, according to the Crown.

The two men are scheduled to return to court on July 19.
