At lunchtime on Friday, Odell Francisco sat in front of Good Fellas dressed in a pink jacket, pink-and-white bangle bracelets, pink earrings and a pink pendant.

She was painting her friend’s toenails pink.

Other people around the territory were dressed similarly for Paint the Town Pink, an observance organised annually by the BVI Cancer Society during Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

“This is a sign of my solidarity against breast cancer,” Ms. Francisco said, paying close attention to the toenails she was painting. She added that most of her friends dressed in pink on Friday, too.

At the Social Security Board building, the BVI Cancer Society had set up a table where members disseminated information and directed passersby to free breast cancer screening.
