The BVI Horse Owners hosted the first event of the Triple Crown Classic, which was held at the Ellis Thomas Downs on Sunday.

Horses from St. Thomas and St. Croix competed in the event.

The gates were packed for the feature, which had five horses competing for the $10,000 purse.

Slevin of St. Croix walked away with the victory, while East End Tap of Tortola placed second and Political Reporter of St. Croix came in third place.

Good Prospecting of Tortola came in fourth, followed by Diablo’s Fire of St. Thomas. Voice of Faith of St. Thomas was scratched.

Horses earn six points for a win, four points for placing and two points for show.

The next leg of the Triple Crown will be held at the Doc James Racetrack on St. Croix on Feb. 19. The last race will be held on March 18 at the Clinton Phipps Racetrack on St. Thomas.
