Police are taking statements from witnesses after two people died suddenly, one Thursday afternoon on Virgin Gorda and the other on Tortola near the CSY Dock Friday morning, according to Police Information Officer Diane Drayton.

This morning, the body of a male was recovered from the waters near the CSY Dock in Baughers Bay, Ms. Drayton said, though she didn’t identify the man.

She added that the incident is being investigated and the cause of death has yet to be determined.

Yesterday, officers were called to the Nurse Iris O’Neal Clinic to investigate the Virgin Gorda death. Ms. Drayton said early investigations indicate that shortly after 3 p.m., a worker identified as Augustin Popo, 52, of The Valley, received an injury while at a construction site in the Copper Mine area.

The deceased was reportedly using a bladed grinder at the time, and indicated to a co-worker that he had sustained a wound to the throat.

Ms. Drayton said the St. Lucia native was rushed to the Iris O’Neal Clinic, where attempts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful.
