A tourist from the United States died Tuesday after swimming at The Indians near Norman Island, police said.

The 68-year-old man came to the territory aboard a boat from St. Thomas and arrived at The Indians Tuesday afternoon.

After a swim, he complained that he was feeling unwell when he exited the water, according to Police Information Officer Diane Drayton.

He was unresponsive when he arrived in Road Town on the private vessel and was taken to Peebles Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, she said.

“No other details are available at the moment,” Ms. Drayton said, adding that an autopsy would be performed.
