Disaster officials are urging the territory to prepare for Tropical Storm Isaac before its outer bands reach the territory tomorrow.

Currently, the Virgin Islands is under a tropical storm watch, meaning that tropical storm conditions are possible within the next 48 hours.

As of 2 p.m. Tuesday, the storm’s centre was about 340 miles east of the Lesser Antilles and heading west at about 18 miles per hour.

Though the eye of the storm is forecast to pass to the south, gusty winds and heavy rains are expected in the Virgin Islands starting Wednesday evening.

Total rainfall of one to three inches, with a maximum of six inches, is possible, according to the United States-based National Hurricane Center.

A storm surge of one to three feet is also expected, as are dangerous surf and rip currents.
