It’s not Captain Gerard Patterson’s favourite plan, but the Royal Fleet Auxiliary ship Argus, which has been anchored in territory waters since Sunday, heads out toward Anguilla Tuesday night, ahead of the latest tropical storm.

Addressing reporters aboard the ship’s bridge Tuesday morning, Mr. Patterson said he hopes not to need to come back to the Virgin Islands during the remainder of the ship’s stay in the region, since that would mean the territory had been hit hard by a storm.

Thanks in part to officials in the Department of Disaster Management, the territory seems well prepared to handle any natural disaster, he said.

The captain added that he thinks the territory’s strategy of having various agencies and departments working with the DDM means that in case of an emergency, officers won’t be working at cross-purposes or duplicating efforts unnecessarily.
