The Vikings and Grenada held on for victory during last weekend’s games to remain on track for a place in the finals of the Digicel Twenty/20 Cricket tournament.

The undefeated Vikings beat Jamrock by eight runs, while Grenada won by seven wickets against the New Testament Church of God at the Greenland Grounds in East End on Sunday.

In the first match, the Vikings won the toss and elected to bat first against Jamrock, who was searching for their first victory this season. Due to a damp pitch and Jamrock’s bowling, the Vikings struggled to 142 for 8 from their 20 overs.

Captain Richard Fredericks, the leading batsman in the tournament, had the top score for the Vikings with 28 crucial runs from 30 balls. Johnny Bailey added 27 runs.

Condell Talle snatched three wickets for 33 runs bowling for Vikings, while Dwayne Gordon picked up two wickets for 33 runs.

In reply, Jamrock started steadily and were 86 for 3 in the 12th over before being bowled out for 134 runs. Mr. Talle led the run chase with 49 runs from 30 balls, an inning that included six 4s and three 6s. Uroy Willory added 23 runs, but the rest of the batsmen struggled by the slow, turning overs produced by Messrs. Fredericks, Bailey and Winston Davis. The trio accounted for nine of Jamrock wickets, splitting the workload with three wickets each.

In the second match, Grenada won the toss and took the field first.

Orlando France finished with three 4s and three 6s for 42 runs from 33 balls, while Trent Belfon contributed 31 from 14 balls as NTCOG finished with 169 from their 20 overs.

Kittason Francis bowled 4 for 32 runs and Rasual Manicore ended with 2 for 23 runs to lead the Grenada bowling attack.

In reply, Grenada cruised to victory in 16.1 overs led by the solid batting from opener Raymond Charles, who had three 6s and six 4s for 57 runs from 45 balls. He shared a 98-run first wicket partnership with Mr. Thomas, who added 48 on eight 4s and one 6.

Derol Redhead made 38 not out, with one 6 and seven 4s on 18 balls.

The final two weeks of the Super Six stage will be determined with the Cavaliers vs. Grenada match this weekend. A loss by either team could jeopardise their appearance in the finals.

Defending champions Vincy also needs to win this weekend against NTCOG to remain in the hunt.
