Going from an 11-2 majority in the House of Assembly to a 9-4 minority after Monday’s elections may be a low point for the Virgin Islands Party, but candidates remain optimistic about the party’s future, they said at a press conference Thursday.

“There’s only one way for the Virgin Islands Party right now, which is the most clear way, which is up from where we are,” said Andrew Fahie, who won his bid for District One representative Monday.

Mr. Fahie, Alvin Christopher (R-D2), Julian Fraser (R-D3) and Ralph O’Neal (R-D9) will form the new opposition.

Reporters had hoped to receive official word on who would be named opposition leader, but the party hasn’t yet made a recommendation to the governor regarding the position, said Ralph O’Neal, who, as former premier, received many questions from reporters.
