When Florida resident John William was invited to host the Calypso Competition at the Virgin Gorda Easter Festival, he didn’t have a passport.

But he wasn’t about to let that stop him: He got one right away and accepted the invitation, he said on Monday as he gyrated among hundreds of participants at the Easter Monday Parade.

The St. Croix native, who is known for the comedy videos he posts on Facebook, was part of a kaleidoscope of revellers who danced in the procession that began at Spanish Town and ended at the Ralph T. O’Neal Festiville, bringing to an end three days of parties and events.

“The whole trip was lovely,” Mr. William said. “I’m tired. I wuk up and I fete. The people are lovely, respectful, and I love them bad.”

That was the reaction organisers hoped attendees would have after attending the events, said Sasha Flax, chairwoman of the VG Easter Festival Committee.

The festivities began on Saturday with a Food Fair and Fungi Fest at Spanish Town. Later that day, an official opening ceremony was held at the Ralph. T. O’Neal Festiville, where Opposition Leader Ralph O’Neal (R-D9) was honoured for his contributions to his native island.

Jamaican reggae singer Tarrus Riley performed later, finishing off in to the wee hours of the morning.

The next day, eight calypsonians competed for the VG Calypso Competition trophy, with King Paido emerging as winner.

A Rise and Shine Tramp followed early Monday morning, where hundreds partied from Spanish Town to the festival grounds, organisers said.

“Overall, it was a great weekend, with all around good turnouts at the various events” Ms. Flax said.
