Virgin Islands Search and Rescue supporters and bargain hunters flocked to the Festival Village Grounds in Road Town Saturday for VISAR’s annual Market Day.

VISAR sold items donated during the year, including books, housewares and marine supplies, while other individuals and organisations paid the volunteer aquatic rescue organisation to set up their own flea-market-style booths selling everything from organic vegetables to music and clothes.

Businesses and charities also operated booths, including the Rotary Club of Road Town, which sold books and household items.

Preliminary figures indicated the organisation took in $11,400 in proceeds, about the same as last year, said Katie LaDouceur, VISAR’s executive administrator.

“It was a great, great turnout – lots more stalls than last year, so we had more things selling,” she said. “The rain definitely put a damper on things, but we made it through with a smile.”
