Tamia Richards, a private attorney with eight years of legal experience, has been appointed by Governor Boyd McCleary to be an additional magistrate.

Ms. Richards had been acting part-time as alternate magistrate, but will now understudy Senior Magistrate Valerie Stephens in a full-time post, according to Government Information Services.

In the position, Ms. Richards will hear and pass rulings in civil, criminal and quasi-criminal matters filed in the Magistrates’ Court. She also was appointed as a deputy coroner for the territory, the release stated.
