A new director with a background in human resources has been assigned to head the Water and Sewerage Department.

Perline Scatliffe-Leonard was appointed to the position effective Dec. 1, according to Government Information Services.

“She possesses the drive, management and administrative skills to improve the services offered by the Water and Sewerage Department,” Communications and Works Minister Mark Vanterpool said in a GIS press release.

Ms. Scatliffe-Leonard told the Department of Information and Public Relations that customers can look forward to improvements in the department’s customer service, accounts, operation and maintenance divisions.

“We are taking a holistic approach to improving the performance of the department,” she said.

The WSD will also focus on reviving the leak detection programme that is urgently needed in water conservation efforts, she said.

“A rigorous repairs and preventative maintenance programme will also be implemented to ensure that a systematic approach is taken toward inspecting, detecting and correcting failures before they occur or before they develop into major defects,” she said.

Ms. Scatliffe-Leonard previously worked as the MCW’s human resources manager. She succeeds Manoherlol Kerof, who acted as WSD director after former director Julian Willock was named MCW permanent secretary in 2010.
