As part of the annual “Records May Day,” the public is invited to visit the Archives and Records Management Unit of the Deputy Governor’s Office on Tuesday.

The unit will host an open house and exhibition that will include video presentations, genealogical documents and disaster management tips for preserving records, according to Government Information Services.

Visitors will get the chance to learn about searching old newspapers, slave lists, colonial government records, missionary records and other information on microfilm, as well as new techniques for scanning and preserving newspapers and more modern documents.

Records May Day was created in 2006 by the Society of American Archivists to promote disaster preparedness.

The Archives and Records Management Unit is on the second floor of the Burhym Electric Building in Road Town, and can be reached at 468-3701, extension 3044.
