IFC website

In response to international media scrutiny following the purported leak of 2.5 million documents, many of which related to two Virgin Islands trust firms, the VI government has launched a website to “correct misleading information,” the International Finance Centre announced. The website, BVIfacts.info, will “set the record straight on a number of key issues,” including the VI’s regulations and adherence to international standards, IFC Executive Director Elise Donovan said, according to Government Information Services. “We are confident that this website will help us convey the highly positive role the BVI plays in the global economy as well as the strength of the services we provide, the breadth of our business base, and the world-class level of our legislation,” Ms. Donovan said.

Court sittings

The High Court held a special sitting Friday morning to formally recognise that Paul Dennis, a partner of the firm O’Neal Webster, was elevated to the rank of Queen’s Counsel on March 18. A special court sitting in honour of John Carrington, QC, a barrister and solicitor, was held on April 12. On May 3, a special sitting will be held to recognise the appointment of a third new QC, Ogier partner Michael Fay. In the VI, the QC distinction is reserved for experienced attorneys who formally apply to the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court of Appeal and pass a rigorous screening process.
