Property taxes

Landowners have to pay their property taxes by Sept. 1 or face penalties, according to the Internal Revenue Department. A listing of assessed tax amounts is available at the department’s offices at the Central Administration Building, the Virgin Gorda Administration Complex, and through district officers on Jost Van Dyke and Anegada. Tortola landowners with property in East End and West End can also pay their taxes at post offices in those communities, according to Government Information Services. Landowners who object to the values assessed on their properties should file their objection with the Magistrates’ Court on Tortola or VG. Hearings to consider objections will be held at the Tortola court at 10 a.m. on Wednesday and at the VG court at 10 a.m. on Aug. 26.

Mosquito inspections

The Environmental Health Department resumed inspecting properties for mosquito breeding sites on Monday, according to GIS. The inspections are scheduled to take place at Wickhams Cay I, Waterfront Drive, Joes Hill Road, Fishlock Road, Flemming Street, Horse Path, Pickering Street, Station Avenue, Sir Walter Francis Drive, Pasea Estate Road, and Long Bush Road. For more information call 468-5110.

Building surveys

The Town and Country Planning Department will be conducting a series of surveys across Virgin Gorda on Tuesdays and Thursdays in August to determine how buildings there are used. The officers will gather “specific structural information on the number of floors, units, construction materials, building conditions and building usage. This information will be used to help provide physical addresses for all buildings in the territory,” according to GIS.
