Derelict vehicles

The BVI Ports Authority wants residents to remove their derelict vehicles and other property from the Vinomar site in Port Purcell and from near the cruise ship pier. The deadline to remove items was Aug. 20, and the BVIPA may consider items left after that date to be abandoned. Items will be removed and owners could be billed, according to the BVIPA. For more information call 494-3435 or e-mail bviports@bviports.org.

Cruise development

The BVIPA is asking local businesses and residents to submit an “expression of interest” to rent commercial space soon to be available once the cruise pier development is built in 2015. The EOI should include “basic information” such as the proposed use for the space and the total space required, according to the BVIPA. The authority is especially interested in hearing from banks, trust companies, telecommunications firms and other types of commercial entity. The EOI should be sent to Managing Director Claude Skelton-Cline at bviports@bviports.org.

Property taxes

Landowners have to pay their property taxes by Sept. 1 or face penalties, according to the Inland Revenue Department. A listing of assessed tax amounts is available at the department’s offices at the Central Administration Building, at the Virgin Gorda Administration Complex, and through district officers on Jost Van Dyke and Anegada. Tortola landowners with property in East End and West End can also pay their taxes at post offices in those communities, according to Government Information Services.
