BVI Finance directors

The newly privatised BVI Finance elected its board of directors at its first annual general meeting last Thursday.

The directors from the private sector are Robert Briant of Conyers Dill & Pearman, Vanessa King of O’Neal Webster, Ryan Geluk of BDO Ltd., Kenneth Morgan of Pendragon Services Ltd., Claire Abrehart of AMS Financial Services Ltd., Peter Tarn of Harneys, Rachael McDonald of Mourant Ozannes, Jonathan Bailey of Nerine Trust Company (BVI) Ltd., and Helene Anne Lewis of SimonetteLewis. The board will also have two government officials on it, but those officials were not named in BVI Finance’s press release. BVI Finance’s interim executive director, Lorna Smith, touted last week’s meeting as a crucial step to make BVI Finance more responsive to the needs of the financial services industry. “As the BVI remains committed to offering an internationally renowned and respected financial services product, the creation of BVI Finance Limited and appointment of the new board of directors will absolutely help to ensure that we fulfil our desire to create a truly public-private partnership in an effort to better support the BVI’s financial services industry,” she said. The next step for BVI Finance will be signing a cooperation agreement with government to cement financial terms between the two entities. Though the organisation has been privatised, most of its funding comes from the government.
