Sharon Flax-Mars, a long-time human resources director at Little Dix Bay resort, is the new director of tourism at the BVI Tourist Board, Premier Dr. Orlando Smith announced Monday morning at a press conference.

“Sharon essentially grew up in tourism assisting with her parents’ various hospitality businesses. She brings to the position deep senior management ability and experience,” Dr. Smith said of the new director.

Ms. Flax-Mars said there is “a lot of work to be done” in the tourism industry. As tourism director, she added, she plans to focus on raising the territory’s arrivals 10 percent by 2016.

“Enhancement of our health services and historical and natural sights must go hand in hand with our tourism development,” she said.
