On Sunday, Virgin Islands Party President Carvin Malone announced he would not run for re-election at the VIP’s upcoming internal vote on Nov. 30.

Mr. Malone has served as president of the party for 17 years, 15 of those alongside former Premier and Chief Minister Ralph O’Neal, who served as party chairman during that time. The VIP president does not run for elected positions in the House of Assembly.

“It would be descriptive enough to remark that I have seen the best of times and I have also witnessed the worst of times,” said Mr. Malone in a press release. “I would not trade my experience for anyone’s.”

Mr. Malone, the owner of the Caribbean Basin Enterprises, promised to assist with the new VIP Executive Council in whatever capacity deemed appropriate, and he encouraged more citizens to become involved.
