The Virgin Islander who was recently appointed the first female chief justice of the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court arrived home Sunday to much fanfare.

Justice Janice Mesadis Pereira received an official welcome at the Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport.

It was her first trip to the BVI since being appointed chief justice in late October, according to Government Information Services.

Premier Dr. Orlando Smith and his wife Lorna greeted the judge and her husband, Joseph Pereira, as they exited their flight.

After that, they were received by a welcome party and escorted to Trellis Bay to depart for Ms. Pereira’s family residence in North Sound, Virgin Gorda.

On Monday, the judge met with students of the Robinson O’Neal Primary School and Bregado Flax Educational Centre on VG.

On Tuesday, she is to receive an official welcome from public officers at Road Town’s Central Administration Building at 8:45 a.m. She will also pay courtesy visits to various officials and host a joint press briefing at 9:15 a.m. with Dr. Smith.
