The Rotary Club of Road Town donated a second dialysis machine to Peebles Hospital during a brief handover on April 26.

The donation came after a noticiable increase in patients being treated in the unit, according to a press release from the BVI Health Services Authority. Currently, the unit is used six days a week and serves about 51 patients weekly.

In her welcome, RCRT President Yvonne Crabbe noted that since the club’s first donation of a dialysis machine in 2008, there has nearly been a 50 percent increase in the number of dialysis patients being treated at the hospital.

“These numbers speak large volumes as it relates to the increasing number of persons being diagnosed with kidney disease and the demand for more dialysis units,” Ms. Crabbe said.
