Sports and cultural games will be among the activities held during the Ivan Dawson Primary School’s annual celebration of Commonwealth Day on Monday.

The event is scheduled to kick off with a march at 9 a.m., where students will parade through Cane Garden Bay, from west to east.

They will be led by the Althea Scatliffe Primary School Drum Corps, one of the territory’s newest drum groups.

After the march and a brief ceremony, races will start, which will include traditional events like lime and spoon, shoe race, needle and thread and others. Food on sale will include conch soup, corn pork, corn fish and maubie.

The event is part of a long tradition, said Keith Dawson, president of the school’s Parent Teacher Association.

“Here in the BVI, many of the territory’s public schools traditionally held their day of sports and activities on Commonwealth Day,” Mr. Dawson said, adding that Ivan Dawson is one of the few schools here that still does so.
