Like many visitors to the Virgin Islands, Stewart McPherson and Simon Vacher wanted to get to The Baths before it was flooded with tourists. But they weren’t in a rush to start snorkeling or working on a tan.

They were filming a documentary about biodiversity in the United Kingdom’s overseas territories. The VI is one of 14 OTs the filmmakers will visit over the course of 28 weeks.

“What we are trying to do is showcase the incredible biodiversity of UK overseas territories,” Mr. McPherson said. “Most UK people don’t even have an idea that they exist, and [the territories] get less than one percent of the conservation budget.”

He hopes the documentary will get “people to care” by showing wildlife and conservation work that is being done in the territories.

Last Thursday, for example, they filmed National Parks Trust and Conservation and Fisheries Department officials freeing birds that were tangled in fishing line on Great Tobago.
