Children stayed out of adults’ conversations. Residents greeted each other when they passed on the street. The village raised each child.

These and other Virgin Islands traditions may have been lost or watered down in recent years, according to Brenda Lettsome-Tye, deputy director of culture. But during this Culture Week, organisers of various activities around the territory are trying to change that.

Events continue Thursday with a book fair at the Ward Building in Road Town.

Friday, a food fair is scheduled to take place at the Noel Lloyd Positive Action Movement Park from 10 a.m., followed by the start of a two-night fungi fest.
