Julian Fraser has represented the Third District since 1999, in the opposition and as part of Cabinet. And, he told his constituents Thursday evening, there is a bright side to serving on the opposition as he currently does.

“In the opposition you can say more,” he told about 60 residents gathered in and just outside of the Valerie O. Thomas Community Centre in Sea Cows Bay. “All the things that I had to say in private when I was in government, now I can bring to you.”

His complaints included a lack of infrastructure development in the Third District; not enough information being given to the public about the planned cruise ship pier development; and his disagreement with Premier Dr. Orlando Smith about the state of the economy.

“You would have to be either blind or wilful not see that the economy in the Virgin Islands is in freefall,” Mr. Fraser said.

One speaker at the meeting said he agreed.

“The people them out there hurting,” the man said of average workers in the territory. “We need commerce in the Third District.”

Mr. Fraser said he welcomed such comments at any time.

“What I need more than anything else is your feedback,” Mr. Fraser said.
