Two Virgin Islands fire officers are in the United Kingdom for training this month.

Benson Thomas and Gaston Walters, who are also emergency medical technicians, are on an attachment with the West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service Brigade from Monday through Feb. 24, according to Government Information Services.

“They will have an opportunity to observe operational activity from a mobilising and control centre; they will be exposed to a major incident involving a collapsed building; and they will be trained in dealing with hazardous materials and situations as part of this attachment,” acting Chief Fire Officer William Penn said.

He added that Sub-Officer Elvin Forbes attended a fire investigation course at the UK’s Fire Service College from Jan. 23-Feb. 3.
