The wind kicked up around 5 p.m. on Thursday afternoon as fishing boats continued to motor into Carrot Bay. Seagulls and frigatebirds gave chase. A crowd gathered on the boat launch while competitors of the Alfredo Delville Fishing Tournament hauled in the day’s catch to be counted and weighed.

“The fishing was just average today, but the weather was excellent,” said Miguel Smith, a mate on the boat Just Enough. Captained by Kelvin Smith the boat brought in the largest catch of the day — a 105-pound red snapper.  “It’s always a good day,” Mr. Smith added. “We’ll keep coming back.”

Other winners of the event included Smith Robin with the largest overall catch, 250 pounds, and Milton Farrington in second place with 51 pounds. Seven boats were entered in the tournament — a decent turnout, Mr. Smith said, but not as good as some years in the past.
