Government has signed a $499,500 contract with the St. Lucia-based firm FDL Consult Inc. to provide engineering consulting for the works associated with the Caribbean Development Bank-loan-funded infrastructure redevelopment project.

Selecting a consultant was the “final major step before we can begin work in earnest,” Communications and Works Minister Mark Vanterpool said Friday at a signing ceremony.

The next step will be for FDL to look over the Public Works Department’s preliminary designs, said Dr. Drexel Glasgow, who, as the MCW’s chief of infrastructural planning, research and development, is overseeing the CDB works.

Work will start only after the plans are finalised, Dr. Glasgow said.

FDL was chosen from several bidders based on the firm’s level of experience, Dr. Glasgow said, explaining that in contrast to a similar bidder from the United Kingdom, FDL has experience with projects in mountainous terrain in the Caribbean.
