“I must warn you: I like to inform my audience that your chairs are your enemies. I know you shall defy these chairs before the night is over,” 59-year-old calypsonian David Rudder told his audience of nearly 400 people at the Eileene L. Parsons Auditorium on Saturday.

The concert was part of the H. Lavity Stoutt Community College Performing Arts Series.

“We are going to keep you in a state of constant rhythm,” the Trinidadian told a cheering crowd a few minutes after he took the stage singing “Rally Round the West Indies.”

Two songs in to the show, there was a growing crowd dancing at the back of the auditorium and in the aisles.
