Volunteers will use their bodies and bicycles to spell out the number “350” on Saturday at H. Lavity Stoutt Community College.

The event, which is being spearheaded by Virgin Islands service groups, is a local observance of the international 350.org campaign.

The initiative was founded by United States author Bill McKibben to raise awareness about global warming.

“To preserve our planet, scientists tell us we must reduce the amount of CO-2 in the atmosphere from its current level of 392 parts per million to below 350 ppm,” according to the campaign’s website.

Starting at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, attendees at HLSCC will hear brief presentations about environmental topics relevant to the territory. Then, at 9 a.m., they are scheduled to form the number “350” from bikes and people.

After that, “fun bike activities” will be held for all ages until 11:30 a.m., according to organisers.

Besides the college, event organisers include the Caribbean Youth Environmental Network BVI; Ladies of S.A.S.S; Green VI; Bicycle Safety Awareness For Everyone and Alternative Energy Systems.
