Closing arguments finished Friday in the case against six men facing charges in connection with an alleged January 2008 cocaine seizure, and Senior Magistrate Valerie Stephens said she will issue a verdict on Oct. 7.

Dale Nibbs, Coy Penn and Asif Glasgow of the Virgin Islands each face charges of being concerned in the importation of a controlled drug, unlawful possession of cocaine, and conspiracy to supply cocaine to another. Mario Pemberton, also of the VI, faced the same charges but was acquitted after a successful no-case submission by his attorney, Anthea Smith.

Dexter Chance, Carlos Sutherland and Gareth McDowall, who were extradited from St. Vincent, are charged with importing cocaine.

The three VI defendants, plus Mr. Pemberton, were arrested in 2008 after police allegedly seized 61.2 kilograms of cocaine, valued at more than $1 million, from a hidden compartment aboard the sailboat Liseron. All six men claim innocence.
