Basil Prescott, 21, appeared in Magistrates’ Court Monday, accused of using a machete to cause grievous bodily harm to another man’s arm.

On Aug. 25, after a dispute between Mr. Prescott’s girlfriend and the girlfriend of Loren Walwyn, Mr. Prescott allegedly attacked Mr. Walwyn with a “garden machete,” Crown Counsel Jude Hanley said. The attack allegedly injured Mr. Walwyn’s right wrist and thumb. He was taken “immediately” to Peebles Hospital where surgeons worked “to repair ligaments, arteries and veins of his arm,” Ms. Hanley said. He was then airlifted overseas for further treatment and released Sunday, the prosecutor added.

Mr. Prescott surrendered himself to the East End Police Station and allegedly acknowledged striking Mr. Walwyn, she said.

“Yeah, I know what you’re talking about, and yes, I did it,” Ms. Hanley said Mr. Prescott told police.
