Andrew Wilson pleaded not guilty to wounding on Friday in Magistrates’ Court after he was accused of stabbing a man outside a bar in Paraquita Bay.

Around 11:45 p.m. on April 20 at Rimmer’s Bar, Mr. Wilson allegedly asked the complainant, Juan Thomas, to stop slapping him “on the behind,” according to Crown Counsel Herbert Potter.

“But he did it again,” Mr. Potter said.

The defendant then allegedly pushed Mr. Thomas, whose wooden necklace burst into pieces, and then hit him in the face with a glass he was holding. Mr. Thomas began to retaliate, but friends held him back, according to Mr. Potter.

The complainant then walked out of the bar, and Mr. Wilson followed, the prosecutor said.

At the foot of the steps to the bar, Mr. Wilson allegedly stabbed Mr. Thomas on the left side of his back, Mr. Potter told the court. “When he was down on the ground, Mr. Wilson then kicked him several times,” the prosecutor added.

When police arrived on the scene, Mr. Wilson admitted to the stabbing, and said, “Officer, it’s me do it; me stab him,” according to Mr. Potter.

Police conducted a search but no weapon was found, the prosecutor said.

Mr. Wilson is to return to court on June 14.
