A man who was shot in the thigh during a robbery in Purcell Estate on Saturday night was scheduled to be released from Peebles Hospital on Monday, police said.

The victim said he was sitting in his vehicle around 10:20 p.m. in a parking lot near C&F Restaurant when he was approached by a masked assailant with a black pistol, according to a press release from the Police Information Office. The robber demanded his gold chain and pendant valued at $8,000, the press release said.

The victim handed over his chain, but he was shot after he refused to hand over cash, according to police.

The assailant was described as a “well built” black male about five feet tall, who wore short pants, a white vest and a black shirt over his head. Only his eyes and forehead were visible at the time of the robbery, police said.

Anyone with information on the crime is asked to contact the Criminal Investigation Unit by calling 311, or to contact the anonymous Crime Stoppers hotline by calling 800-TIPS (8477).
