Estavan Jefferson, 24, was shot to death at around 6:05 p.m. last Thursday in Long Look, according to acting Police Information Officer Beverly James.

By 7:30 p.m., dozens of onlookers had gathered around the Stickett while detectives taped off and surveyed the crime scene.

Nearby, a choir could be heard singing hymns at the Church of God of Prophecy, undeterred by the violence that had occurred about a hundred metres away.

An onlooker at the scene said another person was shot along with Mr. Jefferson and taken to Peebles Hospital, but police have not providedfurther details.

Other killings

This death marks the third killing of 2016.

Hope Hill resident Nickera Smith, 22, was reported missing by her family on Jan. 29. Her body was recovered in the Hawks Nest area of Tortola on March 30.

Deputy Police Commissioner Alwin James confirmed at the time that police are dealing with the matter as a murder enquiry. No one has been charged in relation to her death, and police investigations are ongoing.

On June 4, the body of Merlin Ceasor was recovered from the water’s edge at the Fisherman’s Wharf in Road Town. Autopsy results revealed that he died from multiple blunt force injuries to the head. Luis McKelly is facing a charge of murder in relation to the incident.
